For as long as Carmella can remember, her family and the Marzano family had always been rivals. By the time she was a teenager, she had seen more blood spilled than anyone could imagine. But she's not a teenager anymore, and she had an unreachable desire to get out of that house, out of that family. But in the mafia, that was considered an unforgivable act, and betrayal in the mafia had serious consequences, even for blood.
Elijah Marzano had the same unreachable desire. He hated the family he was born into, and he hated thinking about all the people he was forced to take the lives of due to orders from his father. All he wanted was to escape, but his fears held him in place. As monstrous as it made him feel, he would rather spill the blood of a thousand men than have his own life taken.
When Carmella is sent on a mission to kill Elijah, she almost has the job done, but something about him stops her. She can't go through with it, not after seeing the same sad, longing look in his eyes as she had in her own. They make a plan-they're going to escape from their families. They decide that once the plan has been brought out, they'll go their separate ways. They're both prepared to hide the secrets of their past, never mentioning it to anyone no matter where they end up after escaping.
Will they be able to stick to the plan, or will fate bring them closer than ever? And how could Carmella stay away from those gorgeous blue eyes when they're looking at her with such longing?
