A Walker to some and Witch to others Esse has an ancient ability to traverse dimensions. What many would find a blessing of unimaginable riches and possibility she calls a Blight. With the privilege of experiencing everything, nothing has meaning anymore. Something old. A singular constant for Esse is her reaper, a character from her dreamscape who accompanies her the moment she falls into a sleep. Regardless of the reality he follows her, and together they dig through her memories. While she fears her own tainted nature, attempting to talk through her lives as both hero, villain and bystander he searches for something nameless and forgotten in her psyche. Something new. While accompanied by the reaper in sleep, in the waking life comes interruption. For years now Esse's home has been a world where the possibility of combining both spirituality and technology lie on the brink of fruition. Her quiet existence as an observer is disrupted by the music of Hannes, a long-foretold student. Something borrowed. He is a student like no other, for she has nothing to teach him, and he begs to learn. The fellow Walker reminds her of her own teacher and her passion. He smells of rain and lives with the rays of warm dawn and gratitude that Esse too once possessed, but has long since lost. Is she a whisper of what he too could become? Might he wake up one day with her hollowness, could her fate be preventable? Something blue. The price of infinite possibility is perhaps merely the choices you have to make about the existence you want to obtain. The reconciliation of who you are not. Fragile is the line between living and merely existing, yet after so many lifetimes it can no longer be ignored. Esse fears it may already be too late, the stir of madness does not feel so far. The Reaper searches. She hides. He dances. As the world around them collapses, so too do the constructs of identity and meaning they cling to, and the threads they each hope to unravel.

"It's like . . . you know how at the end of summer camp or college everyone packs all their stuff up and drives off before you so they can go home and reunite with family, and the whole camp is empty and you're standing in the middle of your vacant dorm because your ride isn't here yet?" ". . . Yeah?" "It's like that. Immortality is being left behind at camp alone, and you don't know why." She couldn't remember her name. Didn't really matter, plenty of substitutes available. They almost numbered the amount of years she'd been in this world. Luckily for her, there was one reason she was still here, and as soon as she figured out what the hell it was she could fix it and move on. He remembered her. And what she looked like, how she took her coffee, everything. He couldn't get her out of his head. She was his muse, a glimpse into the impossible where he may finally have something to write about. But what happens when inspiration turns into love, especially with someone who is unable to reciprocate it? Does tragedy or intimacy await them? What is destiny, really?
