Ernwood Forest is home to people living hidden from the prying eyes of humans; the Winged and their tribes. These people stand no taller than a few centimetres off the ground, meaning that things can sometimes get a little difficult... especially when humans are involved. But life isn't all bad. For the first time ever, Azure and the tribes have a human of their own protecting them from the sinister forces beyond the edge of the trees. As the months of winter roll in, nights are growing longer and snow has settled on the leafless branches. The forest is still. He gets a phone call from his youngest daugther on the way home from school. She tell him she'll take the way through the forest, but promise to be careful. They say goodbye and hung up. But she never comes home. Adam report her missing. He gets another call later in the night from his husband. He tells me that Emily is in the hospital. She was found unconscious in the woods by the police. Luke says she has horrible nightmares about a man without a face. Adam and Vanessa quickly go to the hospital to be by her side. Three days later, Emily is allowed to return home. But she's not the same again. She has still nightmares and she see things that nobody else see. Adam and Luke are very worried about her. When Emily is accused of stabbing her classmate, they know they have to help her.

She's lost a lot of blood already, and she keeps losing more. Helios is kneeling next to her, and they're both trying to figure out what to do. I'll start at the beginning, though. Ari is a wanderer, traveller, adventurer, and lots of other things. She doesn't have a home, until one day she does. She's chased into the Akiire territory by the Akiire's enemies; the Tesera. Luckily for her, the chief of the Akiire tribe takes her in. Akiire medicine men and women fuss over her until they're sure she's safe. Then the Akiire initate her as a member of their tribe. She gladly accepts. She's started to like it there, after all. Then Helios starts talking to her. He's nothing special in the tribe. He's a good warrior, but all the warriors are good. The bad ones have already died. Nonetheless, by the time we get to the forest with the dagger and all that, A has only spoken to Helios a few times. Now he's her only way to stay alive.

It's bad enough she's trapped with no way home in such a dangerous place, but when she comes across signs of a monster lurking somewhere on this uncharted isle, she comes to find that the worst of her nightmares have only just begun. because the thing that's been stalking her from the shadows as fangs and scales just like the creatures she fears the most, with intentions of keeping her trapped with it on the isle.
