Athena, goddess of wisdom, master of strategy, sees a lot of her old friend and champion Odysseus in her daughter's crush, Percy Jackson regretting her harsh training of Odysseus and her frustration at him being emotional when his best friend polities dies.
She separated from him, only to regret that later, becoming sleepless with worry for him, having a lasting scar she can only hide with the mist from others, she tries to reconnect with Odysseus later in his life, and they do fix the bridge, but any further that a mentor and student relationship is far beyond them because of the damage they've done to each other.
She wishes to rectify her mistakes with Percy Jackson, the son of her arch rival, and the god who made Odysseus suffer most, Poseidon, she won't make that same mistake.
