Jason leans back, and lays down, "I'm gonna miss Leo," he says with a smile and small chuckle at the end. His eyes distant and empty.
Piper leans back too, "Yeah."
He hesitantly takes her hand in his, "He's okay. He has to be."
"How can you believe that?" She asks, desperate for some reason or hope to actually believe it. Despite what Nico said. "He- he didn't have the cure. He was all alone. And Nico said he died!"
"No," Jason says calmly, constraining her hurt and loud voice that echoes through the night. "Nico said his death felt different. And that he might be alive. You woke up a dragon with your voice, so who's to say that Leo didn't- program the dragon to give him the cure, or something-?" He gives her a smile, something she's been getting a lot lately. "No way he would die so easily."
She swallows the lump in her throat, "Right. We just have to believe." Her voice is tight and strained. And she's trying so hard not to cry again.
Or, Piper dealing with the aftermath of Leo's death. And Leo comes back to camp earlier than expected.

A strange crackling was increasingly more and more prominent, until it drowned the voices of the remaining five. Before he realized what was happening, the ground beneath his torso was crumbling away, larger and larger pieces were disappearing in the hungry darkness below. Nico did not have time to react. Percy was still too far away to hear, to know what was happening, and likely he wouldn't care. Annabeth's breath caught in her throat and the crowd faded, the voices just white noise. There was only Percy, his hair shaggy and swept to the side, his mouth drawn up in his troublemaker smile. Her body ached to return to him, he was so close. But if she was right, that would be a deadly mistake. Annabeth turned back to Jason. "You sold us out didn't you." "There's only one way to end the schism, Annabeth," Jason said. His remaining eye gleamed. "The Greeks must be wiped out." Reyna raised her hand. "Seize them." "Jason!" Piper cried as two legionaries grabbed her arms. "How could you!" Annabeth grit her teeth but didn't struggle. They couldn't win this fight. And the worst part? She totally saw it coming. This is an au where Jason turns the Greeks over to the Romans instead of cooperating, and the resulting conflict ensues. Can the Greeks and Romans work together? Or will they both be torn apart in the end.
