"You think shutting me out will fix everything?" My voice trembled, frustration and hurt bubbling to the surface. "That disappearing, keeping secrets, pushing everyone away, that it'll somehow make this right?"
Sebastian's jaw clenched, his gaze fierce. "I'm doing what I have to do. You wouldn't understand."
I took a step closer, refusing to let him slip away this time. "Then try me," I shot back. "Don't just stand there and say I wouldn't understand when you won't even give me the chance."
For a moment, neither of us moved, the charged air between us feeling thick enough to choke on. His dark, angry eyes bore into mine, flickering with something I couldn't quite place. It was as if he was silently pleading, trying to find an answer in me, searching for a lifeline he couldn't put into words.
I felt my breath hitch as his shoulders dropped ever so slightly, the fight in him faltering. Then, as though some unseen barrier had shattered, he closed the distance between us in a single, unguarded moment. His hands gripped my arms, steadying me as his lips met mine in a collision of emotion that left no room for hesitation.
