Adam Anderson is Eddie Brock's 15-year-old nephew who comes to live with Eddie after his parents decide they don't want him anymore. Adam has a past full of abuse and neglect, which has caused him to have trust issues with adults and a constant feeling of being a burden. Even though Eddie is trying to do the right thing, his journalism career makes him feel guilty for not being there when Adam was younger. He believes that if he had been around, he might have been able to do something to help.

On Adam's first night in San Francisco, Eddie and Adam get into a fight, leading Adam to storm out of the apartment. Seeking space to clear his head, Adam heads to Golden Gate Park. Wandering deep into the woods, he stumbles into an encounter that will change his life-for better or worse.
