Back by popular request! The 2017 rough draft of The Virus Within! (Caution: Contains massive plotholes that were fixed in the polished The Virus Within Series. Grammar issues are present, particularly missing commas.) What do you do when you are one of the infected? The virus in my blood is trying to steal my humanity. It alters my very thoughts and reactions. It taunts me by tempting me with desires that it planted in my brain. These bloodthirsty desires would lead to my demise if I ever gave in. I have more in common with the zombies than with humans at this point. Even the fallen zombies accept me as one of their own. Blood is required to retain my grip on sanity, but the sweet-smelling blood from humans is a short path to madness. Human blood is to be avoided at all costs. Humankind around the world was driven close to extinction by the sudden appearance of the zombies, yet small groups of survivors constantly manage to appear and put my control to the test. -------------------------- This is a standalone zombie book. It has nothing to do with A Different Virus. I wanted to try a book with an easily irritated main character and a nutcase secondary character. This book has a slightly darker outlook at the beginning than my usual stories, but it has some humor further along. This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? The whole camp was filling with smoke. I coughed, praying that my lungs would keep working for just a few more minutes. "Eli, which way is west?" Adam's breathing was just as labored from physical exertion, smoke, and panic as mine was. I didn't even process the question. I didn't know. We couldn't see anything through the smoke because the fire was spreading so quickly, and I just realized I'd forgotten my walkie-talkie. "Don't know!" I answered. Adrenaline was the only thing that kept my feet going. I knew we'd come in the East Gate, and if the cells were in the center, then if we kept going straight, we were going to find the gate any second. "Keep straight!" I instructed. I saw his head bob slightly, acknowledging my delayed direction. Then Adam cried out beside me, and I stopped short. I reached for his body involuntarily as he pitched forward, nearly causing him to take me down with him. My left hand was soaking wet from where it had landed on his shoulder. I winced as I tried to steady him, not daring to look at what I knew would be a pool of blood in my hand. ☁ Now that they have a new ally on their side, they're looking to change the United States for good. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. I ran away because of...circumstances," he said, trailing off on the last word. "Prove to us you're not dangerous," Marcus threatened. "Prove to me you're not dangerous," Eli countered. "I don't even know your names." "Fine. I'm Marcus, that's Peyton, Luke, and Aaliyah," he answered, gesturing toward each of us as he spoke. I could tell he didn't trust the guy, but he seemed good enough. He hadn't said anything to make us distrust him, but he also hadn't said anything to make us trust him. "Look, dude, I'm not trying to hurt you. I'm looking for something a friend told me about a few weeks ago. She said there was a whole network of teens out here, but there's a camp somewhere in Florida that gives them a place to stay. Becoming Them: A Zombie Novel
What would you do if one second you were struggling to survive with your friends and mother in tow, and then you wake up to find yourself with a group of strangers the next - all during the country's takeover of blood-thirsty zeds? Megan couldn't believe her eyes. Her brain was muddled with confusion she couldn't get rid of, no matter how many times those strangers reassured her and explained what happened. But she had to accept it, even though it didn't make any sense to her. Megan had been with her mother every step of the way since everything turned to chaos, beginning just a year before, and now she was nowhere to be seen. And on top of that, she had the zeds to deal with. Ghastly creatures that used to be human, carrying a virus that's spread through a constant hunger for flesh from the host, spreading through bites and scratches. It didn't exactly make it easy to prevent getting infected. Things could have been worse, though, Megan thought. She could've been left all alone to ponder over her thoughts and fear over the future. It'll only be within the time spent with the new group will she find out that everything's not as happy and welcoming as it had seemed. These people had a few secrets of their own, including the real reason they took Megan in. I see the world through different eyes--literally. Some people would say I have it all. I'm smart, have popular friends and my parents are loaded. One deadly weekend at the family lake house changes all that. When I wake up in a strange facility in the middle of nowhere, I'm told that I'm being held for the public's safety and that I've been given a gift. I can see threads of light around objects that can be manipulated to change ordinary things into new and, sometimes, unworldly contraptions. But to call it a gift? It's actually pretty freaky. But the facility director has got to be the worst. He's completely obsessed with unlocking my abilities, not to mention he's a psychopath. To make matters worse, there's this boy I like.
