Percy was tired of being a hero. Defeating Kronos, braving Tartarus, and helping to bring down Gaea should've been enough to earn some peace. But fate wasn't done with him.
All he wanted was time with Annabeth-his Wise Girl, his anchor. Instead, he found himself in a crimson hellscape, where the sky bled and the ground screamed. A jagged river of black ink tore through the land: the Styx.
This time, there was no escape. Percy raised a hand, bracing for the fall. He knew the Styx wouldn't catch him-it would consume him.

Before he realized what was happening, the ground beneath his torso was crumbling away, larger and larger pieces were disappearing in the hungry darkness below. Nico did not have time to react. Confused by Time
300 years after Percy Jackson is left behind in Tartarus, a quest is able to enter the Pit and bring him home to Camp Half-Blood. Annabeth knew it was going to be difficult after getting him out, but she wasn't expecting it to kick off the first war since Gaea was put back to sleep 300 years before when a flesh and blood ancient deity stirs and rises from the Pit after them.
