Four new fellowship doctors face challenges as they become full-fledged EMS physicians at Gaffney-Chicago Medical Center. This is a battle against time; and also a battle against grief and loss as they navigate messy hospital politics. Dr. Oliver Hart, in particular has to face health issues, which rears its ugly head to derail his life once again.

Meanwhile, Jeff Clarke, former best friend from high school, reappears in Oliver's life. It had been 15 years since he cut off all contact with everyone he knew; Jeff finds that things have changed, and Oliver isn't keen on reconnecting with him. Whether they like it or not, they are brought together again.
