Ethan and Kris are young trainers who are out to explore the world! Ethan wants nothing more than to be the next Red, to be the super-young superstar that he was and thus become what he believes is the best like no one ever was. Kris on the other hand wants to discover herself and where she fits in the world around her, because she can't help but feel like there's an odd connection between her and nature itself.
In the middle of all this is Silver, a strength-seeking boy with a chip on his shoulder. These three find their journeys intertwined as they explore the region of Johto.
