BLIGHT (Short Story. Extended)

When the Blight first appears, it is thought to be some kind of frost, a sign of winter returning after so many years without it. But soon the frost turns deadly, infecting millions of people in an instant. The Blight does not stay on the ground, it moves, covering every surface in the world. People, those still alive, take shelter indoors but without the ability to buy food and supplies, people succumbed to starvation.

Lia Mendes, a biochemical researcher, works desperately to save the people that are left. Secure at GenTech, she and another researcher Tom Welling, are the only ones left alive in the building. They do not know how many are living outside. Together, they race against the clock to find a cure or at the very least, anti viral agent.

But when the Blight mutates, GenTech is no longer safe. The Vault is their only choice. Getting to it proves to be more difficult than it ought to be. When Lia comes into direct contact with the Blight she is unprepared for the unexpected consequences that follow.
