He turned to face me, his expression unreadable. "Alessio Romano."

The name hit me like a punch to the gut.

My mind reeled. Romano. The Romano family. The mafia. The same family that had been whispered about in royal circles for years. The same name that had been tied to rumors of bloodshed, crime, and destruction.
The explosion in London ten years ago. My brother's death.

"I need to go," i said quickly, the words escaping my lips almost as a reflex. I took a step back, my head spinning, my heart racing. I didn't know where to go. I didn't know this place. I had no clue what lay ahead.

"You're not going anywhere, not yet," he said, his voice as solid as stone. "You're in my city now."

Without thinking, i bolted. My bare feet slapped the cold pavement, heart racing as i sprinted into the night. I wasn't even sure where i was going, but anything was better than being within reach of Alessio Romano.

But before i could get far, i felt a vice-like grip on my wrist.

"Where do you think you're going?" The voice was low, a soft growl, and unmistakably controlled.

(She yanked her arm, trying to break free, but Alessio was too strong. In one swift motion, he lifted her effortlessly, tossing her over his shoulder as if she weighed nothing at all.)
