Her window was always open for him, and she always saved him when he wanted to be saved. (Which, let's be honest, was most of the time.)
Charlotte Davenport was kind-painfully so. The type of kind that made you question if she was real or some sort of benevolent fever dream. Her blue-green eyes had this unfair ability to make anyone feel safe, even if they had just, say, committed arson or accidentally joined a cult.
Isaac Lahey spent his nights at Charlotte's house at least two, three, okay, seven days a week. It had gotten to the point where she had outright begged her dad for a bigger bed. And-because her father was utterly incapable of denying his sweet, innocent little girl anything-she got it. If he had known why she needed it, though? Oh, he would have spontaneously combusted.
Charlotte and Isaac were inseparable. Completely, hopelessly attached at the hip-until Isaac up and vanished from her life, cutting off all contact like she was some ex he needed to block for his own sanity. (She was not.)
Why? Because he had joined a pack and thought this was the best way to keep her safe. Because apparently, what she didn't know couldn't hurt her. Yeah, tell that to the paralysing human lizard currently roaming the streets, because clearly, that thing got the memo.
She just knew that for the first time in years, her window was closed. And for the first time in years, she wasn't saving him.
