The king has been fighting a war for years now. No one really knows what or why he's still fighting. All they know is that he continues to drain the recources of the country, and worst of all, he has run out of soldiers. Now, young boys and girls must always be alert of the king's soldiers, lest they be Gathered and sent off to be ill trained and ill supplied, and thrust onto the front lines of a war that they don't want to fight. This is exactly what has happened to a young girl named Farren Drows. Orphaned and alone, she has long relied on the teachings of her long-dead brother to guide her, but he never prepared her for this. Will Farren survive as a soldier? Will she even survive the training? Or will she be killed and cast aside, like so many before her.
