Young Batpaw is a CavernClan apprentice who was born with a birth defect that makes her ears and snout much larger than they should be. To the rest of her Clan, this is a sign that she is a dreaded Shapeshifter, a cunning and sneaky cat who is a danger to her Clan. Normally, Shapeshifters are immediately exiled, but since Batpaw's powers haven't yet manifested, she's given one chance.
But her Clanmates doubt her every action, fearing for the day that she lives up to her reputation as a Shapeshifter, casting her life in shadow since the day she was born. The only way to cast away the shadows is fire . . . and in order to be free, Batpaw must burn everything she knows.
