Not much is known about DJ before he showed up in Miami Florida and basically took over the streets all before he was legally able to drive.

After being undefeated for and running most of the crime for an entire year, he was recruited by Layla Gray to join SH1FT3R which he promptly agreed to, after a quick race around the city to make sure she could keep up.

And after two years of working with the crew, pulling jobs and getting rich off spoiled billionaires, their leader has them collecting special keys which he says will unlock a huge payday for them all.
