While Lana faces relentless bullying from classmates who mock her passion, her resilience and the support of her loyal dog Shiro, her friends Ruby and Keith, and her mentor-like figure Rod help her find strength in being different.

But as Lana's fascination with the forest deepens, strange events begin to unfold-claw marks in the trees, eerie whispers on the wind, and sightings of something dark lurking in the shadows. Legends speak of Akriel, a malevolent demon that haunts the woods, marking its next victim with its red, glowing eyes. Despite warnings from the elderly Donovans, Lana can't shake the feeling that she's being watched... and chosen.
