The world is dying. But, then again, it always has been. Only now, instead of the land being decimated in the name of gods and devils, the land is being decimated in the name of profits and advancement. The gods and devils turned out to be real. The gods and devils turned out to be us. Magic is in the air. Technology is pervasive. Invasive. The difference isn't as distinguishable as it once was. Spells or sprites, pixels or prestidigitation, it doesn't matter. Either way, it's just another way for the Guilds to control the Haves and further string along the Have Nots. The world was ours for the taking. So we took it. Now it barely feels like a world at all, after everything we've done to it. We treated the world like we treated our bodies, ripping out the parts we didn't like and replacing them with something we thought we did. And like our bodies, we had to constantly repair and replace and patch and update things just to keep chugging along, just to keep surviving. Thriving never crossed our minds. It was never an option we gave ourselves. The city has become a prison for the poor and a haven for the ultrarich. A haven from the wastes and the chaos of cyberspace, inside and outside the city walls. Fortunes are made here. Lives are ruined. An Elf moonlights as SecWatch in the Unders. An Orc paints a delicate, surrealist interpretation of the Bitlands. A Goblin couple spends their last credit on trauma care for their injured child. Human junkies sit under a bridge, sharing a trip, hallucinating themselves into Trolls. At the same time, a Troll scholar gives a lecture about megacorporative colonization at the Borg Institute. High tech, high magic, low culture. Sounds like home. NOTE: New chapters will be posted to Patreon and Substack for an early-access period before here.

So, here we are, all of us, lost in this mystical realm with zero memory of where we came from. It's like we all took the world's worst vacation, and now nobody can find their way back home. And guess what we have to guide us? A poem. Because why bother with maps or instructions when you can have cryptic, poetic nonsense? It's almost like Serenus wants us to play a twisted game of "figure it out before you die." Now, the world itself is a total trip. It's a magical land where anything is possible, except, apparently, for things making sense. But don't let the pretty flowers and magical buffets fool you-something's not quite right in this enchanted Eden. You've got all these resources lying around just begging to be used for peace, justice, and all those other warm, fuzzy ideals. It's like someone set up the perfect civilization starter kit, but forgot to mention that some of these folks are dead set on turning this dreamland into their own personal dystopia. And with their magical abilities, they're like toddlers wielding chainsaws-adorably dangerous, but mostly just dangerous. Meanwhile, me and my merry band of misfit friends are stuck trying to save this world from self-destruction. Because apparently, we're the only ones who read the brochure about this place being a "civilized society based on values." And while we're at it, I'm also on a little side quest to answer the age-old question: Who am I? It's not like I have bigger things to worry about, like, I don't know, preventing magical Armageddon or anything. With a charming mix of wit, sarcasm, and a healthy dose of "what-the-heck-is-going-on," the story of Serenus follows our nameless protagonist as they unravel the mysteries of this strange land, all while trying to avoid becoming dino-chow or the latest victim of a magical mishap. It's a tale of self-discovery, magical frisking, and just trying to survive another day in this oh-so-serene-and completely crazy-world.
