The air backstage felt heavier than usual, charged with something unspoken. I could feel him before I saw him, the quiet pull of his presence drawing me in like a magnet. The crowd roared beyond the walls, but here, it was the silence between us that screamed the loudest.
His voice cut through the static-low, calm, and far too steady for someone who had just set thousands of hearts on fire. I didn't look up. I couldn't. Not when I knew that if our eyes met, I'd have to admit to myself what I already knew.
Some things weren't meant to happen. But some things were impossible to stop.
