"I told you I was sorry Skylar, but it wasn't even my fault in the first place," he says angry, by the end of it.


"No one can make choices for you Max! I am not dumb!" I say almost amazed that he would even think that I would accept that.

"You'd be surprised Skylar. The world isn't as innocent as you think," he takes a deep breath as he focuses back on the road.

"Max! I am in high school! I am not sheltered at all by anyone! You of all people should know that I know how cruel the world is!" I yell at him now upset that he again is thinking that I am empty-headed.

"Some things are hidden under the surface, Skylar!"

I saw him right before Max did. When he did, his gasped "Fuck" magnified the jump of fear made by my body when I found myself standing merely two feet from an alien.
