Hormones are the body's messengers, orchestrating critical physiological processes that maintain balance and drive various functions. In women, hormones play an integral role in reproductive health, mood regulation, energy levels, and overall well-being. Understanding the science behind how hormones impact a woman's body can help demystify many of the change's women experience throughout life.

The Major Female Hormones

Estrogen:
Often referred to as the primary female hormone, estrogen is essential for reproductive health. It is responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics during puberty, such as breast growth and menstruation. Beyond reproduction, estrogen supports cardiovascular health, bone density, and skin elasticity.

Progesterone:
This hormone prepares the uterus for pregnancy and plays a vital role in regulating the menstrual cycle. It stabilizes the uterine lining, ensuring it is ready for implantation. Progesterone also has calming effects on the brain, influencing mood and sleep.

Testosterone:
Though predominantly a male hormone, testosterone is present in women in smaller amounts. It contributes to muscle strength, libido, and energy.
