The Outerbanks, North Carolina. "Paradise on Earth". A supposed utopia for all. Griffin Russo was one of the more fortunate residents of the Outerbanks, and he was grateful for what he had. But that thankfulness did not come without guilt. He hated how his neighbors constantly boasted about their new cars or the amount of zeros in their bank account. He hated how his classmates would attack kids from the other side of the island for simply being alive. The disparity between his life and those on The Cut angered him; while they suffered power outages during storms, his would only be momentary. There were only a few people from Figure Eight he'd associate with, and he couldn't count on his fingers those he'd rather walk himself into the ocean and drown than be friends with. When he begins to distance himself from his Kook peers, and bond with the Pogues, societal and familial pressures aren't all he has to worry about.
