Julian Carmine and Alison Dilaurentis met through their older siblings when they were eleven and again when they were thirteen. To say they were close may be pushing it as Alison never let anyone get too close. Alison had formed a group of six of them, Julian the only boy but they still spend almost everyday together until one night, a few months after Julian's mother's passing, Alison disappears.

With the group drifted and a summer later, the five of them begin to get anonymous messages from an 'A' who knows everyone's secrets and not afraid to use them as blackmail.
