In a world where science reigns and magic is long forgotten, Toke, a brilliant young scientist, has dedicated her life to Spine's (An evil scientist who's taken over the government) vision of progress. When a dying kingfisher transforms into Tai-a sharp-tongued, magical being tied to nature's balance-Toke is forced to confront the world her grandfather once believed in. Tai's biting sarcasm and disdain for modern society clash with Toke's rational worldview, but as they work together to stop Spine's destruction of the earth, Toke begins to question everything, including her growing feelings for the enigmatic and infuriating Tai.
Now, with the future of the planet at stake, Toke must decide if she can embrace the magic she's spent her life denying and fight against the empire that gave her everything.
