Gabriela "Gabby" Locke hasn't thought about change since her father left. She and her mother had been fine, but struggling, until her mom got remarried to an extremely unlikeable man. Gabriela's humiliation and uneasy year at a new senior high made her look at herself and wonder what's life if you don't make the most of it? And so, on the first day of the new school year, she goes and joins the band, made up of scatters of people she'd never even spoken to before.

Terrence Maylone -- stoic and careless -- seems golden and polished on the outside. A creation God definitely took his time on. He's a sports whack and although being a troublemaker, he has respect from his peers. But inside he's struggling -- he doesn't know who really is with him and who isn't. His life doesn't seem like what it used to be. And he's right -- when he stumbles upon a makeshift "band" practice, his whole demeanor on things takes a turn.

It could just be the sweet, slightly sarcastic girl he's never met before. The keyboard player who seems to walk through the hallways alone. Who plays like there's no tomorrow.

But for Gabriela, this is a total nightmare. Her old unrequited love who jumbled up every single emotion she had without even knowing of her existence -- was now in the same band as her!
