Just as Aanya turned a page, her phone buzzed. It was her best friend, Meera, calling from halfway across the world.

"Late-night reading session?" Meera teased.

"And living my best life in this dreamy satin nightgown," Aanya replied with a laugh.

"Oh, that's the one you were raving about!" Meera said. "I need to see these collections you keep talking about. Send me the link or some pictures. Maybe it's time I treat myself too."

"Humare kareeb aayengi to tabah ho jayegi aap, dur rahiya humse." His words came out low, almost a whisper, but they struck like a blade to her heart. [ You will be destroyed if you come close to me, stay away from me.] And then, without another word, he turned and walked away. ✨✨✨ "Devarsh, please stop! Please listen to me once! Please, Dev...!" Her voice cracked as she chased after him, her feet splashing against the rain-soaked road. Her foot collided with a jagged stone, and she stumbled, crashing onto the wet asphalt. Pain shot through her ankle, and blood seeped from the fresh wound, mixing with the rain. But she didn't stop. She pushed herself up, trembling, drenched, and breathless, forcing her legs to move again. She ran. Ran as if her life depended on it. But the road stretched empty before her. He was gone. Just as blind to her as he had always been. Yet, she kept going, when suddenly- A deafening horn. Blinding headlights. A sickening crash. The impact sent her body flying through the air before she slammed against the cold, merciless ground. Blood-warm and thick-poured from her head, trickling down her face, her arms, her legs. Pain rippled through her, but it felt distant. Almost numb. Her body lay motionless on the rain-drenched road, but her lips quivered, murmuring the only name she had ever known as her own destruction. "De....Dev..." Her breath hitched, her vision darkening. "Aap...aapne kaha tha... hum tabah ho jayenge..." (You said I would be destroyed...) "Ho gaye hum tabah..." (I am destroyed...) "Aapki mohabbat ne tabah kar diya hume..." (Your love has ruined me...) And with that final whisper, her world faded into nothingness.

Samara comes closer to me, now studying my face. Her eyes are wandering all over my facial features. I contort my face in confusion at her weird stares, "Umm, hey--" "Listen, can you wear my wedding dress and be a bride at my place?" She questions. Ec- excuse me? I give her a long stare. I think she is joking and would burst into laughter any minute...but she doesn't. Her face has no trace of humour. "What?" I quirk up my brow. "You have to be a bride at my place." She repeats with no hesitation. Cold shiver trickles through me. ... 18 years old Sanaya Frances, grew up in an orphanage, is finding ways to earn more to gather money for her college tuition fee. She gets a chance to work as a house cook for Hobsons - one of the richest families in New York City. At the job interview she finds that Hobsons's second son, Ashar Hobsons is getting married within a month. On the wedding day, the bride disappears, asks Sanaya to be at her place until she returns. The real bride hides Sanaya's face with a veil, so that no one can recognize the different face. She comes back, but it was too late. The rings were already EXCHANGED. 25 years old, Ashar Hobsons, a successful businessman, decides to marry his childhood friend, who is also a daughter of close business ally. On a wedding, he is utterly unaware that the bride behind the veil who is taking marriage vows with him is not his fiancee, but a new, young cook. His bride-to-be deceived him and the worst part is, she made him married to a teenager he barely remembered. Two complete strangers. Accidental marriage and their confused marital status. This doesn't sound easy and surely doesn't sound romantic. ... Book cover credit: @wasphoria
