Amelia Donovan has always struggled to seem normal and composed. She was just a normal teenager until a past experience ultimately changed her and perhaps keeping it a secret made matters worse.
Fast-forwarding to summer, Amelia is determined to spend her summer the best way possible. But all her plans are canceled when she is forced to go and live with the Jacksons for a month.
Her first impression of Coral Springs isn't at all that friendly, especially her encounter with the rude and cocky heartthrob, Austin Jackson. But isn't that the intimidating image every boy desires to present to a girl? Is he really who he sets out to be? She knows that living in the same house with him won't be easy, but truth be told, nothing in her life seems to come easy.
So, what if her friends keep inviting him wherever they go?
What if he's always around?
Will he awaken any piece of trust left in her?
Will she able to withstand the haunting grip of her past, or will anyone, in particular, give her reasons to keep living?

They would watch as she went back to her beach house, as she went out of her way to stop and chat to her neighbours, as she would get the perfect grades. She was everything you wanted to be, and yet nobody had gotten close enough to her to understand her life in this small town at all. When her plans of leaving suddenly change, and she is forced to start attending the local school, her life takes a route that she hadn't accounted for. A new group of friends, a chance at a normal teenage life, even a potential love interest - things that Amelia had never even thought about happening after everything she'd been through. But happiness is only temporary in her life, and she knew that. It wasn't surprising to her when her past began to catch up with her present, it was simply a good thing that it had taken as long as it had. Things start happening in Amelia's life that simply don't make sense, even to her. They do say you should always keep an eye over your shoulder, especially when you know you're being hunted, but for Amelia, even an eye in every direction wouldn't be enough. Time begins counting down, fast. Did she want to involve her friends? Could the new people in her life be trusted? She wouldn't have long to make a decision. There are several things Lynn doesn't quite get about the world she lives in, which makes it harder for her to figure herself out. She is not your average teenager. She's young, intelligent, though something about her is off by now.
