The sun hung low over the vast expanse of the Great Plains, casting an amber glow on the rolling hills and whispering grasses. Captain William "Will" Harper stood atop a ridge overlooking the Little Bighorn River, his gaze fixed on the horizon where dark clouds gathered ominously. Behind him, the distant sounds of the 7th Cavalry preparing for battle echoed through the valley.
He clutched a worn piece of parchment in his hand-a map detailing General Custer's plans for a surprise attack on the Lakota and Cheyenne encampments. The weight of his decision bore heavily upon him. Betrayal was a word that tasted bitter, but conscience demanded action. The faces of the people who had taken him in, taught him a new way of seeing the world, flashed before his eyes.
He took a deep breath, mounted his horse, and rode toward the encampment that had become his sanctuary, determined to avert the impending tragedy.

Dust and Destiny di Dorinda398
26 parti Completa Per adulti
Time Frame: 1865-1869, immediately following the Civil War. Setting: The book is set across the plains and small frontier towns of Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado Territory, as railroads are slowly expanding westward. Lawmen, outlaws, and settlers are carving out lives in a raw, often unforgiving landscape. Plot: The story follows Clara Bennett, a daring and independent 22-year-old woman whose family lost everything in the Civil War. Determined to make her own way, she leaves her small Missouri town and heads west with nothing but a revolver, her wits, and a horse she bought with her meager savings. Along the way, she encounters: Eli Thompson, a charming but morally gray outlaw hiding from the law, who becomes an uneasy traveling companion. Sheriff Jonas Calloway, a relentless lawman who is tracking Eli but develops a grudging respect for Clara's resourcefulness. Native American tribes trying to protect their land from encroaching settlers. Dangerous terrain, harsh winters, and opportunistic bandits. The book's adventure comes from Clara navigating the challenges of frontier life-horseback chases, river crossings, train robberies, and tense negotiations with townsfolk and Native Americans. While it's full of daring moments, it's realistic for the 1860s: communication is slow, gunfights are deadly, survival is uncertain, and the culture of the time shapes every choice. Tone: Gritty, adventurous, and character-driven, focusing on survival, morality, and the tension between law and lawlessness in the Wild West.
The Edge of Misery: The Mitchel Brothers Series Book Two di BritCYancey

** Picks up where The Edge of Hell (Mitchell Brothers Series Book One) left off** If there's one thing Declan Mitchell learned from watching his mama almost die from the heartbreak of losing his daddy to a war nineteen years ago, it was that a great and powerful love delivered an equally devastating heartbreak and suffering-the kind he had every intention of avoiding like the bubonic plague. And until traveling west to Idaho Territory and coming face to face with the mismatch-eyed, auburn-haired beauty, Wren McCrawdon, he believed he might succeed in carrying out his plans of never marrying. Molded by her traumatic journey west when she was twelve, twenty-four-year-old, accident-prone Wren McCrawdon's life on her family's ranch in Falcon Ridge, Idaho, is full of back-breaking work, beginning as dawn's first rays peek across the mountains and ending long after the sun sets when she can barely drag her weary bones up the stairs to her bedroom. But from the morning Declan Mitchell and his family arrive, her miserable existence becomes more bearable until tragedy strikes when all she sees are the harsh realities of loss and suffering. Concerned for Wren's safety and remembering how bitter the edge of misery was after his daddy died-Declan discovers he's willing to do anything he can to take it away from her... even if it means a marriage of convenience is the only suitable solution. There are only two problems: first, it's already apparent he's following in his mama's footsteps toward eventual heartbreak, and second he somehow has to convince Wren to agree.

Some fires don't burn out - they become you. Jane was born in the dust of the Nebraska Territory, baptized in violence and raised beneath the boot of the God-fearing congregation. By the time she's a woman, she's no stranger to pain - or to running. Branded a criminal, hunted across the West, she trusts no one. Especially not men with law badges and silver tongues. Until she meets him. The sheriff is steady, haunted, too good for the territory that bred him. Without realising she is the outlaw that he's tracking, he offers her shelter during a storm - nothing more. But Jane has survived by reading men like maps, and she sees it in him: desire, reined in tight. Jane stepped closer. The sheriff's walls were plastered with her crimes - wanted posters, notes, crude sketches of her own face. And now Jane stood between them and the man hunting her. He'd brought whiskey. She smiled. "Tryin' to get me drunk, Sheriff?" His chuckle was slow. "Just bein' decent." She moved closer, each step a gamble. If he saw the posters in the lamplight, he'd surely recognise her. No. She had to keep him looking at her. Only her. A button slipped free. The sheriff's jaw tightened. "You don't have to do that." "I know," she said, and closed the last inch between them. It began slow, a breath shared, a thread pulled taut - then it snapped. His mouth met hers, rough and unrelenting. There was no tenderness, only heat. Her back hit the wall, her shirt slipped, and his hands roamed like fire. She had used her body as a weapon before. But this was surrender, too - fury and need burning under her skin. Outside, the storm battered the shutters. But the real storm was here. And through it all, Jane kept her eyes on the wanted posters above the bed. Her own face stared back. Wanted: The Outlaw is a work of historical fiction that dangles religion, redemption, and extremely steamy romance on the end of the hangman's rope.

Unable to remember the tragedy that left her orphaned, a little girl grows up in the wild backcountry of 1850 Colorado. Facing betrayal, greed, danger, and love, she must choose the kind of future she wants for herself. Safely hidden away, alone, and content, or learn to accept somethings are worth the risk. * * "I hear there was trouble in White Rock two days ago. Man by the name of Ludlow was shot dead in the street. He's a hired gun from Texas, talk is he tangled with Red Rivers and lost." Faith felt her heart quicken at the mention of his name and frowned. "Red River's? The gunfighter? Last I heard he was in New Mexico." "Not no more ma'am. Word about is he's got a price on his head and all the local guns who think they're salty enough are out to take him down." Her mind was whirling. Rivers was a wanted man; every hired gun in the territory would be after him, especially if there was a large reward involved. Where would he go, what would he do? Of all the stories she'd heard of Red, he was not a man to run from a fight.
