В малко, забравено от времето село стоеше стара къща, обвита в мрак и мистерия. Всеки, който се осмели да се приближи, се връщаше със същата кошмарна история: за куклата, която стояла на прага, винаги с ново, страшно лице. Няма никакво обяснение как се е появявала или как е могла да променя изражението си.

Един ден младо момиче, решено да разкрие тайната, влезе в къщата. Първото нещо, което забеляза, беше куклата, стояща в средата на тъмната стая, неестествено чиста, макар всичко около нея да бе покрито с прах и мъх. Изведнъж куклата мигновено се усмихна и със звук на счупено стъкло отвори очи. Без да мигне, момичето почувства как нещо студено се спуска по гръбнака й. Сянката на куклата, която преди бе безжизнена, се издигна и започна да я следва, все по-близо, все по-бързо.

С всяка стъпка момичето усещаше как нещо я наблюдава, как нещо отнема част от нейната същност. Страхът я пронизваше, но тя не можеше да избяга. Сякаш куклата беше не просто играчка - тя бе нещо повече, нещо зловещо, което можеше да влезе в душата на всеки, който я погледне.
