NightOwl is a Replicator assassin - part of a mysterious tribe of harpies that cut off their wings due to tradition. When she's assigned a mission to retrieve jewels with her nemesis, she leaps at the chance to prove herself as the best assassin.
Until the world destroys itself.
Unnatural disasters threaten to demolish everything, and she's forced to survive with a group of teenage harpies while figuring out several things, starting with: How come no one told her she was in the prophecy?! The world has been keeping secrets from them, and NightOwl believes the end of the world, the prophecy, the jewels, oh, and something called "magic," are all connected somehow.

Karissa lived a calm life in South Town with her father, Peter. Upon her mother's death in her teens, she rebuilt herself, and lets her mother live on in her memories. As her 18th birthday approaches, she begins to have strange dreams. Her childhood best friend, Amanda, and their new friend Lorelei from the northern city of Irkah, one day overheard a conversation that will soon change their life forever. Just two days before her birthday, grief sets in when her friends go missing, and she's left without them, not knowing where they could be. On the day of her 18th, she discovers that her eye has changed color. Scared and confused, she confided in her father and Amanda's grandmother, Rhian.
