Karsyn Elliot, a compassionate and patient preschool teacher in her early twenties , has spent her career nurturing and guiding young minds. Shane Presley is a dedicated police officer trying to balance his demanding job with being a good father to his 5-year-old daughter, Noelle. After his breakup , Shane and his ex-girlfriend , Jana , were supposed to co-parent peacefully, but jana's unpredictable behavior and emotional instability make that impossible. Jana constantly undermines Shane's authority, manipulates situations to make him look like the bad parent, and makes life difficult for Noelle by exposing her to unnecessary drama.
