In the affluent town of Sanita Hills, Amerie feels like an outcast. Living at the bottom of Sanita Hills, where poverty reigns and the working class struggles to survive, her family's financial hardship contrasts sharply with the town's opulence. Amerie's world is further defined by the dysfunction within her home: her father, a cruel alcoholic, dominates their household with emotional and physical abuse, while her mother remains emotionally distant and passive. Her once-vibrant brother, now disabled after a devastating car crash, is a constant source of pain and worry. As if her circumstances weren't bleak enough, Amerie's life takes a turn for the worse when she loses her job. Without an escape and no support system, she feels more trapped than ever. In a town where wealth, status, and family define success, Amerie must navigate her fractured identity and fight to save her brother, all while seeking a way to break free from the suffocating cycle of poverty and neglect. But can she ever escape Sanita Hills, or is she destined to repeat the same patterns of pain and suffering?

Why Love?

Get her!" a familiar voice yelled and the next thing I knew, my books were slapped out of my hands and I was pushed to the ground. "Lucas," my mind was racing with confusion and my eyes swelled with tears. "You didn't think that I was a nice guy. I control these grounds sweetheart and I don't like new people invading my school. Get out of here and if you say anything about this to anyone, you will get more than just a warning," I scrambled to my feet and quickly grabbed my books. I finally found the will to stand and I took off. My feet hit the grass of my front yard and I collapsed. My sobs became more frequent and my head fall back looking up at the sky. I can't believe this is happening to me. Trigger Warnings ⚠️ - depictions of alcohol abuse, physical abuse, sexual and mature themes, language, and cancer. All rights reserved. Completed story.
