In the plot of Gilmore Girls, Dean and Rory break up thanks to Jess. Sidney and Jess broke up thanks to Rory, Both Sidney and Dean knew their relationship was crushed since Jess kissed Rory at Sookie's wedding.
It's been about a month since the breakups, and Sidney focused more on herself and school. Dean went back to working at the store and working on cars. After a while, Sidney found a liking to Dean, and her usual trips to the store to get fresh baking ingredients. Since the two see each other often they started to speak more if they saw each other at the store or anywhere.
