Bear Anderson never imagined himself to be seated on the ground with his back pressed against the brick wall of the training gym, right next to what he used to call an enemy, Brody Garcia.
"you said you played baseball for most of college" Bear commented, he stared down at Brody's neck, the dark brown hair that sat there, not too short but not yet that long. "so why'd you stop? I reckon that you must have been good"
he watched as Brody turned his head, his backwards baseball cap almost falling off as he pressed his back against the cold brick wall and exhaling.
he stared off into the distance, seeing something only his own mind could see. "there's something I haven't told anyone, the real reason why I quit" Brody admitted he looked in Bear direction now, his soft blue eyes that showed so well in light traced over Bear's face.
"you have a secret?" Bear questioned with a tilt of his head. he started to wonder about Brody's experience as a baseball player, was his secret something bad?
"I suppose so" Brody said softly, his legs unwinded from his criss cross applesauce and he pulled them closer to his chest. "I'm scared of this secret Bear" Brody sighed, he didn't sound scared but Bear had learned there was lots of things Brody didn't sound or seem like.
"will you tell me?" Bear asked the boy and he let out a grunt, his bruised hands from a previous match went to his face, covering over his mouth as he seemed to think.
"if I do it's your secret too."
