Book Two of the Johnny Holiday Mysteries

Set in the early twentieth century, in the fictional city of Saint Anthony (Minneapolis, Minnesota), this volume follows the adventures of Johnny Holiday.

Abandoned as an infant on the steps of an orphanage and forced to find his own way in the world, Johnny comes of age during the Great Depression, working his way up through the newspaper businesses: from paperboy to the presses, to journalist.

The novel begins on the day following the climactic adventures of The Man with Lightning in His Eye. Having survived his encounter with the gangster Karl Thorrson, and mistrustful of his newly found patrons, Johnny is intent on leaving town to get some piece of mind and re-think the direction of his life.

But, still haunted by revelations about his past, he decides to follow a lead that leads him even deeper into the murky world of gangsters, police corruption and sorcery. Johnny must keep his wits about him in order to himself and his friends alive.
