In a world where people are born with a "Signature Affinity"-a personal, magical connection to a specific aspect of nature (fire, water, light, darkness, etc.)-everyone is expected to master and wield their gift by the age of eighteen. These affinities define one's status, career, and social importance. Magic is integral to every aspect of life, from communication to commerce to protection, and those without an affinity are considered incomplete, second-class citizens, even outcasts.

However, Ariella is one of the rare individuals born with no Signature Affinity. Unlike others, she has no connection to any element of nature-no visible magic at all.
