Being Paul Lahote's stepsister (not that either of them ever bothered with the step part) had its perks. Like the universal understanding that she was strictly off-limits. No one messed with Akira unless they fancied a very public, very painful beatdown courtesy of Paul and his testosterone-fuelled wolf cult.

Unfortunately, falling for one of said cult members was not part of Akira's grand life plan. She had standards. She had dignity. She had self-preservation instincts. And yet, somehow, her heart failed to get the memo.

Jacob Black, resident broody werewolf, thought Akira was the prettiest girl ever. And the nicest. And also, very importantly, not an option. Even talking to her was a risk, as if Paul had some kind of sixth sense for potential suitors and a personal vendetta against their existence. So, in his infinite teenage wisdom, Jacob redirected his totally real and not at all avoidant feelings toward Bella Swan-because hey, she was lonely, she was conveniently nearby, and she had a track record of making questionable romantic choices.

This all worked out beautifully. Until it didn't.

Because guess what? Akira turned out to be Jacob's literal fated soulmate. His intended imprint. The one person in the universe he was biologically wired to adore.

And guess what else? Paul officially wanted him dead.
