Claire Marcus has been in a toxic relationship for a year, since she start college at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Being practically forced to go to an ice hockey game by her best friend, the moment she laid eyes on the captain, Ryder Callahan, she knew she was done for. She had fallen hard and fast, and honestly needed a distraction from the fact that her father passed away a couple months beforehand and her mother has already managed to remarry. Or the fact that he obsessive ex-boyfriend keeps trying to contact her to get better, because he made a stupid mistake and he'll try to be less clingy. Throughout the year though, Claire comes to begin to realize that he so called "wonderful life" with Ryder is not as wonderful as her mind has made her seen. Even through constant reminders from her best friend Gigi, she still would not listen. As they say, one can be blinded by love.

Ryder Callahan couldn't wait to get out of his father's house during the summer break, and finally ready to get back to Claire, the women he's come to love. He knew they had their fights but everything was going to eventually even itself out, he could feel it. Claire was his life, everything he did was to make sure she was happy, she came before him in every situation, he was willing to do almost anything for her. He was able to tell Claire was drifting farther away from him, that he was slowly loosing her, which meant he was loosing his new self. His best friend Drew just tried to tell him he was being delusional, but Drew didn't know Claire the way Ryder did, Drew hadn't seen Claire the way Ryder did.
