MA CHÉRIE!

In November of 2014, Kim Na-Young, known as machérie in the music industry, is a 22 years old Korean Canadian producer and songwriter whose work has been heard and praised all over the world for the past few years, which has given her the reputation of being some sort of musical genius with a knack for producing songs and sounds that turn any unknown artist into a global star overnight. Nobody really knows who she is or what she looks like, and she spends most of her time holed up in her little studio in Montréal, coming out of her man cave once in a while to grab a coffee with friends or attend a random university lecture on feminism in the 60s. Life is good, but it is also easy, too easy, and as her days start becoming one and the same, Nana is slowly but surely losing the passion for music that has inhabited her for as long as she can remember, and she feels herself spiraling into a deep, dark hole of nothingness.

When her mentor, the one who found her on Soundcloud all these years ago and helped her become the artist she is today, reaches seemingly out of the blue to invite her to work with him and an up-and-coming boy group for a year in Seoul, it feels like a sign, an opportunity to beat the monotony that has taken over every aspect of her life. Nana rises to the challenge, leaving everything she knows behind to hopefully find who she truly is, both as an artist and as a human, in 365 days.
