Echoes Across the World is a heartfelt and emotional love story inspired by the author's true experiences, following Rei, a Thai girl living in Singapore, and Eri, a Vietnamese girl residing in Cambodia. Both passionate fans of the K-pop group NewJeans, they connect through TikTok, where they share and create stunning fan edits of the group.
Their story begins when Rei, admiring one of Eri's viral edits, uses a clip from her video in a post of her own. When Eri notices and mentions it, Rei reaches out to apologize, but Eri, gracious and understanding, brushes it off. The two follow each other and begin to share videos, tips, and personal conversations, slowly forming a deep bond over their mutual love for NewJeans and their shared creative passions.
What starts as a simple online friendship soon turns into something more-a situationship, with both girls growing emotionally attached. As they spend more time talking, Rei finds herself falling for Eri, while Eri, though she cares deeply, begins to feel overwhelmed by the intensity of Rei's feelings. A series of small disagreements and unspoken tensions lead Er to make a difficult decision to stop their relationship from developing further. Fearing the loss of what they have, they agree to remain friends.
However, Rei's feelings remain unchanged.
She is deeply attached to Eri, unable to shake the affection she has for her. With both girls holding onto a fragile bond, Echoes Across the World explores the complexities of emotional connections in the digital age-how love can blossom unexpectedly across distances and how sometimes, love isn't enough to bridge the gap between longing and reality. Will Rei and Eri find a way to reconcile their feelings, or will their bond remain a bittersweet memory of what could have been?
