Ground Zero is a dark fantasy novel centered around Leon Evergreen, a young man who becomes trapped in a permanent reincarnation game called Ground Zero, developed by the mysterious company Alviant. Upon entering the game, Leon is reborn as Alexander Stein, losing all connection to the real world.

Alexander possesses a rare and terrifying ability called Afterlife, which activates upon his death. This ability resurrects him after death, but with a cruel twist-he feels the pain of every past death all at once with each revival. Unbeknownst to the world, only Alexander possesses this ability, making him a figure of great mystery and danger.

As Alexander struggles to survive and understand his place in this world, factions react to his unexplained survivals:

The Wardens hunt him, believing his repeated survivals are unnatural.

The Glitchborn sense something different about him, drawn by his anomaly.

The Forsaken are lost souls bound to pain, visible only to Alexander, and they seek to teach him how to harness his torment-or be consumed by it.

The world itself holds secrets tied to the origins of Ground Zero and the true nature of Afterlife. Alexander must uncover the truth while mastering his deadly gift, balancing the risk of losing his humanity with the need to survive.

Themes of pain, perseverance, and identity drive Alexander's journey as he fights to control his power while factions close in, questioning whether he's a hero, a monster, or something far worse.

After years of drifting in the vastness of space aboard the Arc, humanity's last refuge is on the brink of collapse. The oxygen supply is dwindling, and with no other options left, a desperate decision is made: to return to Earth-a planet long abandoned after a cataclysmic solar apocalypse scorched its surface and altered its environment forever. A small group of survivors, led by former officers, scientists, and civilians, descend to Earth, each bringing unique skills and haunted pasts. They find a world both familiar and terrifyingly new. The sun's relentless radiation has twisted the landscape into something wild and unpredictable, while the remnants of humanity, now known as "grounders," have adapted in brutal ways to survive. Thrown into this unforgiving world, the group must navigate the dangers of their new home, from violent grounder tribes who see them as invaders to the scorched earth that seems intent on swallowing them whole. They face limited resources, hostile terrain, and their own inner demons as they fight not only to survive, but to build a future on this desolate planet. With tensions rising, secrets from the Arc threaten to tear the group apart just when they need unity the most. In the chaos of survival, they must decide what kind of world they will build amidst the echoes of the past-and whether they can hold onto their humanity in the process. Echoes of Survival is a gripping tale of resilience, sacrifice, and the relentless will to live in a world where everything is fighting to keep you down.
Engines of Alchemancy (The Alchemancer Book One) by scottmarlowe

After re-reading Engines of Alchemancy in preparation for writing the 3rd book in the series, I decided to post the entire book on Wattpad. It's a good story, and I'd love to have readers such as yourself give it a try. Engines of Alchemancy is the 1st book in The Alchemancer series. It's followed by The Nullification Engine and The Inversion Solution. You can find out more about The Alchemancer series and my other books here: https://www.scottmarlowe.com/page/the-alchemancer *** Infernal engines consume the world and only a sorcerer's apprentice who knows nothing about magic can stop them. The Alchemancer series begins. Chaos erupts in the Barony of Fallmere when a surprise elemental attack destroys Norwynne Keep. Aaron Shepherd and Shanna Bonnerman survive, but Shanna is soon lost in the fallout of the keep's destruction while Aaron is forced to flee for his life. Unbeknownst to Aaron, Shanna becomes a captive of the enemy who destroyed their home. This enemy, a savant who claims to follow the path of science, speaks of ancient, infernal devices and a quest to reclaim the greatest of them all. Certain the savant means to kill her, Shanna is instead surprised when she finds herself embarking upon the adventure of a lifetime. Meanwhile, only the worst of nightmares awaits Aaron. Pursued by dwarven raiders, mad sorcerers, and a host of demons who will not stop until he is dead, the only thing keeping him alive is his own wits and an eslar mercenary whose reputation as a killer might make him the worst threat of all. Though Aaron and Shanna travel different paths, their purposes align when they each learn of a mysterious device known as the Fifth Element. Shanna sees it as the final piece of the puzzle that is her destiny. To Aaron's logical mind, it is an impossible ambiguity. Whatever the answer, the Fifth Element draws them back together and into a final confrontation where science and sorcery will collide.
