wei ying was married to the second young master Lan, Lan wangji, two days after he reported Jiang wanyin and his group of fellow bullies to the heads of his school. it was not your typical marriage, it was more of a win win situation for both parties; Lan corporation and Jiang group. the jiangs were given a sum total of five hundred million yen for the exchange of their shadow child to Lan  wangji. 

the thing was, Lan wangji is such an influential person at such a young age for holding shares and leading the corporation at twenty three along his elder brother, Lan xichen,  a much more easy going person, was the main ceo after his younger brother. he was afterall the second heir.  such being, many other heiress and share holders would try to bag him raw on a golden platter. therefore, he agreed to be married to wei ying, the shadow child of the jiangs for the money sum and cut all ties after the contract. 

seventeen years old wei ying thought he would be under a better roof although he knows Lan wangji is indifferent and cold to everyone. he tried to be obedient and careful of his every actions to not make Lan wangji regret his choice. after a long while of trying to be the perfect wife, he finally grew tired and let it all go.
