Since the time of its founding, the Kingdom of Gh'mia has endured an endless siege from a ceaseless horde of monsters. Every year, thousands upon thousands of soldiers and civilians are slain at the hands, teeth, and claws of the chimeric beastmen, a force of destruction that is ever fought, but never defeated. Yet hope remains, for though the victims of the terrible onslaught have long since accepted their fate, the right person in the right place may be all it takes to set them on the course toward salvation. Enli, a young woman who, as a child, survived the destruction of her home village, has trained since an early age as a member of the volunteer militia of her adopted home. Working as an assistant to both a wizard and a blacksmith, she has found a life she is contented with, but destiny has other plans. On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Enli is tasked by a being she calls "The Light" with saving not only her kingdom, but the entire world from the threat of the beastmen. Determined to see the quest fulfilled, she sets out in search of a hero more equal to the task. First in the series The Careworn Soul, Enli's Impossible Quest is a tale of action and adventure in a world of magic and monsters that explores the idea that not everyone was meant to be a hero.
