"Tell me, where do ghosts in love find their bridal veils? If you and I were ghosts in love, We'd climb the cliffs of Mystery, Above the sea of Wails, I'd trim your gray and streaming hair With veils of Fantasy From the tree of Memory. 'Tis there the ghosts that fall in love Find their bridal veils." A list of names has followed Bucky Barnes since his first victim was taken by his hands as The Winter Soldier and forever etched into his memory. One by one, Bucky has been able to make amends in some form or fashion in his efforts to reclaim his life, but there was always the one person he could never cross off. How could he when he doesn't even know her name? Bucky's been dealt an unfair hand in life, but maybe someone from beyond the grave could help finally put this mind and soul at peace... or, perhaps, mess with the natural law and order of things.

When he's brought to the Avengers compound to heal, he expects clinical detachment and judgment. What he finds instead is Lily Bloom, a sweet, stubborn doctor with warm eyes, floral dresses, and a quiet determination to see the person behind the weapon. Lily thought she left SHIELD behind for good. But when she's asked to help rehabilitate the infamous Winter Soldier, she agrees on her terms: no lab coats, no walls and no treating him like a project. As trauma surfaces and trust slowly blooms, the lines between healer and patient begin to blur. But the past isn't done with any of them and when the ghosts come calling, they might be the only thing keeping each other from falling apart again. A slowburn of found peace, small kindnesses, emotional intimacy, and dancing in the shadows.
