Matthew Parker was one of my closest friends out of our whole group. He and I had been practically inseparable since we met at a park at around 10 years old. He knew everything about me, and I thought that I had known everything about him. However, when he suddenly disappeared six months ago and then turned up dead in the woods just days later, I was left with many questions. I had begun to question whether or not I truly knew him. Everybody in the town loved Matthew, so in my mind the only logical explanation as to why somebody would want to harm him is that he was leading some sort of other life with a totally different group of friends. I always thought I was safe, you know? I mean, it wasn't really something I thought about before. It's not like I had a reason to worry about being particularly unsafe. I've always been perfectly normal anyways. Nothing exciting or dangerous happened to me. I was a plain Jane in every sense of the phrase, and nothing strange or particularly astonishing ever happens to people like me. My entire philosophy, however, was completely and drastically changed after being attacked and raped one night. I probably would have been killed if it weren't for Drake Collins, the closed off "tough guy" of my school. He came to my rescue, and reluctantly swore not to breathe a word to anyone. They were intriguing and we all wanted to be apart of them. But of course, they weren't exactly open to letting others in. Overtime peoples wanting to be apart of them lessened or went away all together. But mine never did and I knew exactly why. It was her. The way she held herself and the mystery of what not only they held but what she held to. I figured it would just be an infatuation from afar. But oh how I was wrong.
