Malhar is the older brother of Roop's best friend, a man she has known her entire life. For years, Roop has admired Malhar from afar, seeing him as the charismatic and ambitious politician who has always been somewhat of a figurehead in her life. Malhar, on the other hand, has always regarded Roop as his younger sister's best friend-someone who was off-limits.
