Four years. That's how long it's been since Haley escaped her tiny, rumor-plagued hometown for college across the country and never looked back. Freshly graduated with a job lined up in New York, she's determined to make her first visit back to Blue Isle a short detour on the way to her new life. But that plan didn't take into account her ex-best friend, Monica, being found floating face down in a pond the week of her return. Despite the turmoil that brewed between them and led to her branding as the town's pariah before her timely exit, Haley becomes determined to uncover the truth behind Monica's death. But that also means coming face to face with the ghosts of her past, like confronting her complicated relationship with Monica's boyfriend, Landon, the boy who'd wronged her all those years ago, and navigating an entangled friendship with her alluring ex, Boone. As Haley digs deeper into the mystery, old wounds resurface, and she realizes the answers to the present mystery might just lie buried in the past. That is, if she can solve it before it leaves her buried, too.
