In a world in which gods and spirits intervene in the destiny of nations, what people would dare to call themselves non-believers?

The reclusive clans of Saltleaf Forest are about to find out.

When two children go missing on the brink of a conflict that threatens to engulf their small world, one family is forced to confront the secrets in their past and re-tread a journey they wished they could forget. As the future of an isolated people becomes entangled once more in the world they turned away from, each of them must examine what it is they believe in and how much is worth sacrificing to remain who they are.

What to expect:

A large fantasy world with multiple POV characters, but rooted initially in one familiar setting which gradually broadens out.

Character development which sees young characters grow in confidence and strength.

A nuanced approach to good an evil, with different cultures that hold different values, but ultimately with a strong moral core.

Darkness, mystery and suffering but always relevant to the story and never for shock factor or without meaning

(Previously deleted, but I am rewriting it) Asia Jones has her eyes on Zakeem Washington, who is on the high school basketball team at Booker T Washington High School. She tries her hardest to ask him out, but is shy and doesn't want to appear like an idiot. Only problem is, he plans on going to college in North Carolina, and she's not. Can Asia win his heart, before she loses her opportunity to shoot her shot?
