Victoria ran through the woods, excited to see her two brothers James and Laurent and tell them all about her travels, and how she had found her mate, in little old Forks Washington. The only reason Charlie didn't go with her was because she wasn't sure she'd have the strength to stop if she turned him. She wanted Laurent to do it. As he was the one to turn both of them. She knew he would not allow her mate to die during the transformation.
Victoria slowed in her tracks, hearing the cries of a newborn child, no, three. What were human children, three recently born babies doing here in the middle of the woods of all places? She followed the sound, and the smell of blood hit her like a tidal wave. Oh goodness, that amount is definitely too much to be coming from the three cries she heard. Her heart slightly broke in its unbeating state. Had something happened to their mother, would their mother even be alive when she got there?
She let out a sigh of relief hearing a faint fourth heartbeat. The other three heartbeats were just as faint, if not barely there. Were the children ill? She slowed her pace and slowly approached the woman who was struggling to sit up and wrap the children in a blanket. Two girls and one boy.
The woman looked up at her and softly smiled, "Oh good, one of you heard their cries" she coughed, "I won't survive a transformation, and I don't have much time left. Listen closely to the blood flowing through my babies. Surely you can hear it." When Victoria snapped her head in the children's direction, a look of pure confusion and shock on her face, the woman continued. "They're half vampire-half human. Protect them where I have failed to do so. Please, you must, the father, the father won't understand. He'll kill them."
